Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School
At IGGS, we aim to educate students to become confident well-educated young women prepared for higher learning, global citizenship and life.
The School was established in 1892 and we are fortunate to have a proud history and many traditions. Our professional staff are committed to providing each girl with a positive, personalised, holistic education within our safe, first-class learning environments.
The School is frequently commended for our students’ high academic results, confidence, diligence, self-discipline and community service. These commendations are a consequence of contemporary, evidence-based learning and teaching programs, dedicated and talented teachers, the individual attention given to each student and the productive partnerships we enjoy with parents and Old Girls.
IGGS’s tertiary entrance outcomes and literacy and numeracy results are continually among the best in Queensland.
As students progress through the middle and senior years, teachers use a combination of explicit and student-centred teaching and learning methods. We believe this approach best enables our students to become confident, independent learners equipped with 21st century skills that will empower them to transition to higher education and life beyond the School’s gates.
At Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, we have high expectations for our students.
Our pastoral care programs teaches students to be well-mannered and diligent in all that they do. They are also taught to respect themselves, their families, the local community and world in which they live. We guide students on how to be effective team members and, above all, expect them to maintain high moral and ethical standards, and display care and compassion for others.
Students come from many countries to study at IGGS. Our boarding students are amazing young women because they quickly learn how to be resilient, independent and caring individuals. The boarders support each other and are likewise supported by caring, professional staff in a safe, modern boarding house situated at the heart of the School. Students also have opportunities to travel to a range of Australian cities and internationally to Germany, China and Japan.
Your daughter will make friends for life at IGGS as she shares the fun and excitement – and the trials and tribulations – of growing into a confident, well-educated young woman.
She will be supported by our family-orientated school community and over 16,000 Old Girls as she engages with academic, personal and social challenges during her adolescent years. The fun and fellowship associated with the secondary years of schooling will be indelibly etched in to her mind and heart and fond memories will be recounted for the rest of her life.
Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School is the school of choice for parents and guardians who want to provide their daughters with every opportunity to grow into confident well-educated young women. I encourage you to contact the School, visit us on Open Day, or arrange a personal tour so that we can show you the opportunities that we can offer your daughter.
I look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful school community.
