This article provides a summary of the key points from this presentation.
Nurturing Student Success:
A Personalised Pathway Approach at Ipswich Girls' Grammar School
AHISA is a prominent professional body dedicated to supporting and representing the interests of 470 independent schools across Australia and New Zealand. Their mission is to advocate for quality educational outcomes by empowering principals and leadership teams to confidently navigate an increasingly complex schooling environment and to support their professional practice. AHISA also develops and fosters valuable professional networks and provides opportunities to learn from others via regular conferences, master classes, and research showcases to promote best practices in education. IGGS was recognised for our approach to tailoring personalised education pathways for our senior students at the recent AHISA conference.
IGGS is incredibly proud of our reputation as a high-achieving institution where students are empowered to pursue their aspirations with confidence and independence. Central to this success is our commitment to establishing the Personalised Academic Action Plans for all students and seeing them thrive on the collaborative efforts of IGGS staff, parents, and the wider IGGS community. Each student's academic progress is meticulously recorded and monitored, reflecting the commitment of all stakeholders to prioritise individualised support.
The driving force behind IGGS's personalised planning approach is its Academic Management Team, comprising key faculty members, including the Dean of Studies, Dean of Students, Head of Extension and Intervention, VET Coordinator, and Careers Counsellor. The team collaborates with teachers, parents, and students to set goals, leverage strengths, and address challenges unique to each student. These proactive dialogues are then meticulously recorded and serve as invaluable resources for monitoring student progress and development from Year 7 through Year 12.
While personalised education is a cornerstone across all IGGS schooling years, senior students have benefited from a targeted planning process facilitated by the rich historical data captured within the Academic Management Framework. Our Academic Management Team works with IGGS students from Year 10 onwards to reexamine their goals for life after graduation and consider how their senior schooling pathway will need to be structured to meet their goals. At IGGS, students have the flexibility to choose from a diverse range of subjects and programs to achieve their post schooling goals, including ATAR general subjects, intervention and work preparation programs, and Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. IGGS has forged partnerships across the educational landscape to offer students opportunities such as completing a Diploma of Business prior to graduation or participating in early entry university courses.
In essence, IGGS maintains a holistic approach to education by prioritising individualised support, early intervention, and diverse pathways. By empowering IGGS senior students to realise their full potential, IGGS is preparing them for successful academic and employment endeavours.
