Governance
The School is governed by a Board of Trustees in accordance with the Grammar Schools Act 1975. Responsibilities for the recruitment, employment of staff and the management of the School on a day-to-day basis are delegated by the Board of Trustees to the Principal & CEO. Other executive staff (Executive Management) are responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the School.
Board of Trustees
The Board consists of seven members appointed by the Governor in Council every four years (most recently in 2015) comprising:
- Three trustees elected from and by the subscribers who have donated or subscribed at least the electoral eligibility amount as prescribed by the Act;
- Four ministerial nominees.
- Mr Gregory Ploetz, Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Trustee since 2005
- Chairperson Greg Ploetz has been a solicitor in a private practice since 1981, both as a sole practitioner and in partnership with the firm of M.A. Kent & Associates since 1987. He served on the committee of the Bremer Catchment Association when it was initially established and was a member of the Podiatry Board of Queensland. Greg is a past President of the Ipswich & District Law Association, an active member of the Ipswich Rotary Club since 1987 and has held executive positions with the Ipswich Rotary Club since 1988. He is a past President of the Ipswich Grammar School Old Boys’ Association. His sons are IGS Old Boys and his daughter is an IGGS Old Girl.
- Ms Maria Kelly, BCom, CA, Trustee since 2000
- Deputy Chairperson Maria Kelly is the Director of Business Services and Taxation at Harding Martin Chartered Accountants, with more than thirty years’ experience. She is also a Board Member of Apprenticeships Queensland Ltd (since 1999) and UQ College (since 2013).
- Prof Marie Kavanagh, DipT, BCom, DipAdvAcctg, MFinMgmnt, PhD, ASA, MAICD, Trustee since 2017
- Professor Marie Kavanagh has a national and international profile in education, particularly business education and a strong reputation for community engagement. She has past experience on four organizational boards. Professor Kavanagh is a Fellow of the Business Educators’ Association of Queensland, Chair of Zonta District 22 JMK Business Awards and Karalee Community Association. She is an active member of the USQ Australian Centre for Sustainable Business Development working in the areas of community leadership, culture and resilience.
- Mr James Sturges, MEd, GDipEd, AdvDipMan, Trustee since 2013
- James Sturges is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ipswich Hospital Foundation. He has always been in the forefront of technology adoption. James was a Board Member of the founding Board on The University of Queensland’s venture – UQ College, and a founding member of the Advisory Board of Fire Station 101. His daughter is a current student at IGGS.
- Ms Carly Gregory, BEd, Trustee since 2013
- Carly Gregory has extensive experience in marketing, with a career spanning more than 14 years. Ms Gregory’s most recent experience is in a senior marketing role for Ipswich City Council. Her daughter is a current student at IGGS.

Strategic Plan 2018 – 2022
The focus of the School’s strategic direction has been sharpened, and initiatives developed to further embed key strategic themes. The five-year plan was written after seeking feedback from external education consultants from the Australian Council of Education Research and all members of our school community.
School Reporting
To comply with State and Commonwealth requirements, Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School is required to report on student and school performance. A set of standard areas on which schools must report helps parents identify the information they need to make informed choices about their children’s education.
