Ringing in 125 years of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School

Every year is a big year at Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School but 2017 is going to be grand!

We will be celebrating the 125th birthday of IGGS, with a number of celebratory events planned throughout the year to provide opportunities for the whole School community to come together as one.

A highlight of the year will be our special birthday assembly on 1 March 2017, marking 125 years to the day since our foundation IGGS students had their first lessons in their new classrooms under the leadership of then-Headmistress, Miss Fanny Hunt.

A special commemorative logo has already been designed to proudly recognise the occasion – a pale blue bell. Our IGGS bell holds a special place in the heart of each and every IGGS girl who passed through these hallowed halls and rang the bell to mark the completion of their final exams in Year 12. The girls will wear these enamel bell pins with pride in 2017 after presentation at the 125 birthday assembly.

Development of an Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School Cookbook, celebrating 125 years of IGGS, is also underway, with the memento set to feature not only delicious recipes but stories and tales from current and past students, staff, families and friends of IGGS and IJGS.

A special edition Canterbury “hoodie” has also been designed and will be available for pre-orders early in 2017 via FlexiSchools online ordering, or in the Cottage Shop. Don’t miss out!

Below are some of the highlights planned for 2017. Please save the date, and keep an eye out for further details to follow.
